Upside down gardening
I was just watching Regis and Kelly and discovered a wonderful use for old plastic paint and spackle buckets, soda bottles and gallon milk jugs. Matthew Benson from Organic Gardening Magazine showed us how to make an upside down planter for herbs and vegetables from everyday things you might ordinarily throw away.
I particularly liked the plastic paint bucket. He planted a tomato seedling on the bottom and suggested that Basil could be planted on top. It’s not only a space saving idea but very green, oh and did I mention easy?
Decorating the planter would also be a great summer project for the kids. They can also make decorative labels to identify each plant.
It’s a great way for people with back issues to garden. No more bending over to weed and till your plants.
Here’s the link for Live with Regis and Kelly with a video showing how it was done.
Has anyone ever tried this?
Please leave a comment with your experiences and ideas. I love hearing from you.

in baby green steps
I haven’t tried it personally but it would have really come in handy this year! My tomato bushes, or trees as I am now calling them, are over seven feet tall and still growing. I keep staking them and staking them, they have by far outgrown their cages!
I am gonna try my best to do this next year!
Gratefully,
Christy
Wow, I’m a little jealous of those tomato trees. lol….I have my plants ready, my bucket ready, going to try and get mine up this week. I have a picture from Tina Brake-Koenig. She just hung hers up. It’s going to be interesting to see how it works out.
Have a good green day,
JoAnn
Do you use your old newspapers in your compost?
Or make little “starter” plant pots for your seedlings out of newspaper?
starter plant pots out of newspaper sounds like a great idea? Do you do this? Please feel free to share your “how-to” with us.
thank you Sue.
